From Emil Hyde and Massive Ego Productions comes this clever horror comedy about a landlord named Tyler (Derek Dziak) and the many dilemmas he’s facing. Not only is he faced with the stress of trying to keep the profits steady so he can pay the rent, he also has a cross to bear in the form of two demons named Lamashtu and Rabisu (Lori Myers and Rom Barkhordar) who haunt the place and kill off all the tenants. While trying to cover up for their misdeeds and avoid getting in trouble when a detective comes to investigate the place every time there’s a disappearance, he also has to deal with his corrupt cop sister (Erin Myers) and her partner and their involvement with a cult of zombie-like vampire gang members. He soon meets up with a young woman (Michelle Courvais) with problems of her own, but not quite as big as his, who becomes his new tenant. While trying to form a relationship with her, he makes a deal with Lamashtu and Rabisu to spare her. The two continue to cause havoc when Tyler is not around. Can Tyler survive the madness and keep good on his determination to prevent his world from collapsing around him?

The Landlord is a very funny and original horror comedy with plenty of gore and jokes and some very inventive plot elements added to its main story of the landlord and the two demons. The special effects are very good despite the film’s low budget and Dziak does a fine job in the lead role. For a low budget horror flick that may look pretty cheesy for its initial appearance, The Landlord manages to be very entertaining and well-crafted with all its technical aspects handled very professionally despite the limited resources.

Massive Ego Productions’ DVD release of The Landlord contains some nice extras including a commentary, a behind-the-scenes featurette, deleted and alternate/extended scenes, trailer, and more.
