Kentucky Author Alonzo Fugate offers up tales of Kentucky horror and suspense.
Apr 08, 2010 – (Jackson, Kentucky, April 2010) Afraid of the dark? The back hollows and country roads of Kentucky may seem just a little bit darker…and a little bit bloodier thanks to the writings of Kentucky author, Alonzo Fugate. Known for his earlier works of children’s poetry, Fugate took a wide turn in this collection of short stories of horror and suspense. The catch is that they all have Kentucky settings. “I wanted to create a book of scary stories that had Kentucky as a backdrop.” Fugate did just that with the release of his latest book, DARK AND BLOODY [ISBN 978-0-557-31814-8, Lulu Publications, $20.00].
Drawing on his professional knowledge as a National Board Certified Teacher (the highest achievement in teaching today), Alonzo Fugate is well-known for the release of his first two books, NOSE PICKIN’ (AND 50 OTHER WAYS TO TICKLE YOUR BRAIN!) and PUMPKIN GUTS. “I had a blast with my first two books. I write things that I want to read…and hope that others want to read it as well. When I was working on the poetry books, I wrote stuff that made me laugh. When I was working on the horror stories, I wrote stuff from my nightmares.”
DARK AND BLOODY provides the reader with a collection of 10 stories that are, as the author describes them, “page turners that offer thrills-a-plenty!” In this 308 page book, readers will also find original illustrations created by the author that help to bring the stories to life. “I didn’t use as many illustrations in this book because it is intended for a slightly older audience. However, I just had to include some. I am a major computer geek and love to use technology. I used some great programs that I have to manipulate some old photographs I had. I even designed the cover using an old Halloween decoration that I had stored for years.”
Continuing on, Alonzo Fugate stated, “These stories are for readers everywhere who love a good scary tale. There are a lot of scares in these pages. However, I feel that this book will offer up something even more special to people from Kentucky. It is pretty cool to read about your home state. Like they say, Kentucky is a dark and bloody ground!”
