Chicago Underground Film Fest Call For Entries

CHICAGO UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL
Chicago, Illinois – USA
June 2 to 9, 2011

The 18th Annual CHICAGO UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL (CUFF) comes once again to Chicago’s Gene Siskel Film Center to confront the tired, the market-driven, and the predictable. Always defiant and offbeat, CUFF focuses on the artistic, aesthetic, and just plain old fun side of independent filmmaking. Since its inception, CUFF has strived to present adventurous, experimental works that challenge and transcend commercial and audience expectations.

Much more than a film festival, CUFF has gained a reputation as one of Chicago’s most anticipated cross-cultural summer events. Each day’s screenings are followed by a great night of parties and live music events, with past CUFF editions witnessing performances by the Demolition Doll Rods, Califone, Big Chief, Bobby Conn, The Wesley Willis Fiasco, Maureen Tucker, Ken Vandermark, The Gaza Stripper, and DJs Terre Thaemlitz and Tommy Sunshine, to name just a few.

Exhibiting filmmakers receive travel stipends and lodging to attend the Festival, plus full accreditation that includes complete access to all public screenings, parties, concerts, and other events.

MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
CUFF’s programming is innovative and unique, ranging from the lowbrow entertainment of John Waters, Doris Wishman, and Coffin Joe to the fine art films and videos of the current avant-garde. Past programming highlights include the Chicago premieres of LOL by Joe Swanberg, WE JAM ECONO – THE STORY OF THE MINUTEMEN by Tim Irwin, MARY JANE’S NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE by Sarah Jacobson, Kevin DiNovas’ SURRENDER DOROTHY, and PLASTER CASTER by Jessica Villines, among many others.

Famed film critic Roger Ebert says of CUFF: “What you get for your money is not just admission to the films but admission to a subculture”, and legendary avant-garde filmmaker George Kuchar said simply: “CUFF gave me hope for the future.”

If you suspect you might be an underground filmmaker, then the Chicago Underground Film Festival is for you. Submit today!
