Are we supposed to recognize her as a legitimate actress yet? I’m not sure where the public’s opinion lies. Either way, Katie Holmes’ horror film, Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark, will hit theatres this August. And yes, it is remake of the 1973 made-for-TV movie. The film is about a man, his girlfriend, and his daughter moving into an old house undergoing renovation. The daughter, Sally, is lead into a secret basement by strange voices and opens a door releasing prehistoric goblins. They start to terrorize Sally and Kim (Holmes), and just as the family is about to flee the house for safety – they find themselves trapped inside with the monsters who want to kill them. Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark will hit theatres this summer on August 12, 2011.

This film was actually filmed in the summer of 2009 in Australia; followed by post-production in September of the same year. However, its release has been long delayed because of the division in the Miramax company. Instead, Lionsgate will be releasing this horror film to the public. The rating is called into question as well. Apparently the director and crew behind Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark shot it for a PG-13 rating, but the MPAA has slapped it with an R rating. We’ll see if the rating lives up to the hype that R rated films usually get. Director Guillermo del Toro hasn’t failed us yet.
