Horror Sells: Your Weekly Horror Sales Update

Nothing too interesting going on at the Box Office in the realm of scifi and horror. I think the most interesting thing is that Kevin Smith’s much talked about horror film, Red State, leaped almost 20 spots up the chart. I Saw The Devil and Black Death moved up a little too. As a website dedicated mostly to independent horror, we should give these films a round of applause for holding their own!

  • 2 Sucker Punch $23,790,000
  • 7 3 Battle: Los Angeles $9,986,000 (Total: $74,966,000)
  • 9 6 Red Riding Hood $5,702,000 (Total: $33,816,000)
  • 11 9 Beastly $2,835,000 (Total: $25,964,000)
  • 19 15 I Am Number Four $677,000 (Total: $53,667,000)
  • 26 27 Black Swan $275,000 (Total: $106,669,000)
  • 37 55 Red State $126,000 (Total: $701,000)
  • 42 35 The Rite $104,000 (Total: $33,012,000)
  • 59 60 I Saw The Devil $36,000 (Total: $104,000)
  • 88 95 Black Death $2,700 (Total: $18,200)

I’m really hoping there are some good horror releases coming out that will influence the DVD Top 30 chart soon. Didn’t Dinoshark just come out? Horror films on the chart are all but dead right now…

  • 9 2 The Walking Dead Season 1 $2,141,000 (Total: $7,650,000)
  • 25 23 Paranormal Activity 2 $473,000 (Total: $13,300,000)

Same thing with television! Nielson ratings, in millions, are still particularly high for Syfy! Hopefully there will be more to report on soon when Vampire Diaries and Supernatural come back from their spring hiatus, but does anyone at HS really watch CW shows anyway?

  • Ghost Hunters – 1,800,000
  • Being Human – 1,300,000
  • Fact of Faked: Paranormal Files – 1,287,000
