Scifi films are still the leading the pack at the Box Office. Theatres have loaded up their venues to make room for the summer blockbusters, which has killed any indie or recurrent films on the cart. Interestingly enough, though, Scream 4 more than doubled its earnings compared to last week.
3 1 Pirates of the Caribbean/Stranger Tides $58,650,000 (Total: $172,246,000)
5 4 Thor $14,513,000 (Total: $164,872,000)
11 6 Priest $2,774,000 (Total: $28,337,000)
26 18 Insidious $259,000 (Total: $52,830,000)
29 44 Scream 4 $206,000 (Total: $37,964,000)
New releases breathe a little life back into the DVD Top 30 chart. Horror films The Rite and The Roommate debut high on the chart, despite less than stellar numbers. I’m surprised to see that the Black Death is still hanging on another week.
3 The Rite $2,945,000
5 The Roommate $2,579,000
7 3 Harry Potter/Hallows Part 1 $1,899,000 (Total: $70,625,000)
12 Thor: Tales of Asgard $951,000
17 13 Narnia/Dawn Treader $664,000 (Total: $23,425,000)
25 21 Black Death $356,000 (Total: $922,000)
26 20 Black Swan $334,000 (Total: $17,567,000)
Syfy network is definitely patting themselves on the back lately, with all of their shows averaging 1,000,000 to 1,500,000 each week. I read somewhere that these numbers are up in % compared to 2010, but still not as high as 2007 and 2009.
The Killing 1,971,000
Ghost Hunters – 1,491,000
Haunted Collector – 1,444,000
Hollywood Treasure – N/A
