Horror Sales: Trollhunter, Hobo, Falling Skies, and Swamp Shark

*yawn* Oh, look… More scifi films taking over the Box Office. In terms of horror, Scream 4 is almost out of theaters, but Insidious is still holding strong. Isn’t it weird how a movie made on $1,000,000 has beat the crap out of a film with a huge cult following? Also, Trollhunter and Hobo With A Shutgun continue to march up the chart.

2 Transformers: Dark of the Moon $64,680,000

4 1 Green Lantern $26,730,000 (Total: $95,692,000)

5 2 Super 8 $17,449,000 (Total: $100,536,000)

7 4 X-Men: First Class $9,496,000 (Total: $135,711,000)

10 8 Pirates/Stranger Tides $7,189,000 (Total: $231,547,000)

16 12 Thor $803,000 (Total: $177,516,000)

31 30 Insidious $112,000 (Total: $53,565,000)

47 56 Trollhunter $31,000 (Total: $63,000)

58 68 Hobo With A Shotgun $14,000 (Total: $678,000)

66 57 Scream 4 $10,000 (Total: $38,180,000)

Battle: Los Angeles and Red Riding Hood debut on the DVD Top 30 chart, bringing some new life into it. True Blood still kicking ass, but this is probably the last week we’ll see The Rite. I’m surprised I Am Number Four isn’t doing better in sales.

1 Battle: Los Angeles $7,387,000

4 Red Riding Hood $3,038,000

7 3 True Blood Season Three $2,186,000 (Total: $27,052,000)

10 15 Harry Potter/Hallows Part 1 $1,164,000 (Total: $71,257,000)

18 10 I Am Number Four $615,000 (Total: $10,712,000)

21 16 Drive Angry $542,000 (Total: $3,571,000)

22 7 Green Lantern: Emerald Knights $507,000 (Total: $1,816,000)

29 22 The Rite $359,000 (Total: $5,740,000)

Now, if you want to get technical, Swamp Shark had the best horror/creature feature showing of the week. Let’s say it went to theaters at the normal $9.50 rate. That means it would have made $23,750,000 in ticket sales. Although, let’s be honest, that many people wouldn’t pay almost $10 to see a film like Swamp Shark.

Also, TNT’s Falling Skies is a new scifi show about the last survivors on earth fighting back against aliens. I’ve missed the first few episodes because I didn’t know the show existed, but I’ll be posting numbers from here on out.

True Blood – 5,424,000

Falling Skies – 4,200,000

Swamp Shark – 2,500,000

Teen Wolf – 1,675,000

Finding Bigtoot – 1,480,000

Nine Lives of Chloe King – 1,432,000

The Supernaturalist – 1,295,000

Hollywood Treasure – 1,104,000

Haunted Collector – 1,024,000

Vampire Diaries (rerun) – 840,000
