Cody Matthew Blymire Interview, horror actor and star of the upcoming Hallow Pointe

I haven’t interviewed many horror actors recently, so this interview will be a special treat for our female readers. This is my interview with Cody Matthew Blymire. He’s done a bunch of roles in horror and science fiction roles in the past couple of years, most of which will be highlighted here. Currently, he is filming Witches Playground and will also star in the highly anticipated Hallow Pointe. I first talked to Cody on Twitter back in April, asking him what his favorite scary movie is, to coincide with the release of Scream 4. So, I figured it was about time that I got to know a little more about him. Read the interview below to find out more about Cody as well.

Five years ago, you booked a tiny role in FrightWorld. Did you ever think that this would be the beginning of a budding career in horror films?

I remember submitting myself for FrightWorld. I initially did it just to get the auditioning experience; I was not intending to get the role. I was taking acting as a minor in college, and wanted the experience.

David Williams loved my audition, and gave me a choice of roles to which I wanted to play. I liked the role of ‘Sick Boy because he had the coolest death scene. Once I landed the role, I looked at it as a learning experience. While on set, I did learn a lot and made a lot of friends. I always grew up enjoying horror films, but never thought that I would make a career in acting in them. FrightWorld definitely prepared me for the horror world.

In ThanXgiving, you find yourself playing ‘Bo,’ a much larger role than in your previous film. Interestingly, you also are credited as a writer on IMDB. How did writing the script and then playing the part work out?

Bobby Ray Akers Jr. and I are attached to Hallow Pointe. He wanted to work with me on a smaller role before my larger role in Hallow Pointe. He mentioned that he was doing a director’s release to his film, ThanXgiving. I love acting and enjoy it immensely, but I also want to learn the other things that go into film making such as writing, producing, and directing. I asked him if he was ok with me writing a new opening to the film. He said, “Yeah, give it a shot.” I think it turned out fairly well and I have been getting great feedback on it. I told him the other condition then for using my script, was that I play the role of Bo and my real life brother, Wes, play my brother in the film. He was cool with it.

I’m excited for the upcoming werewolf film, Hallow Pointe. Although it’s still in pre-production, you will be filming with a lot of horror stars including Kane Hodder, Tiffany Shepis, Eileen Dietz, and many others. Are you nervous or more excited to show these icons what you got?

I too, am very excited for Hallow Pointe. The script is amazing, the cast is very talented, and Hollywood definitely needs a film to bring werewolf horror films back to life. Hallow Pointe promises to do this. I am excited to work with the genre stars, they are talented and entertainers I grew up admiring. I like the vision Thomas Churchill has for the film as well. He is very creative and I am stoked to get to work with him. I am especially interested to work with Leslie Easterbrook. She is amazing talent wise, and a fantastic person.

Not only do you appear with Deneen Melody when filming for Witches Playground resumes, but you also get to film with your brother, Wes. What is it like sharing screen time with your brother?

I love my brothers. I have two of them, Wes and Garvey. They are my best friends. I grew up very close to them, and I intend to remain close with them all of my life. I cannot imagine my life without them. It means the world to me to be able to fulfill my dreams with my little brother. He is very talented, and I am glad he is hoping to follow in his big brother’s footsteps.

An Immortal Tale and 1313: Nightmare Mansion both have a big supernatural theme to them. Could you give me a brief explanation of your character in both films since I haven’t seen these films yet?

I play Marcus in An Immortal Tale. I play a guardian-like character in this film. I am a protector of a gifted child that is being hunted by others from another galaxy.

I play Will in 1313: Nightmare Mansion. Will has probably been my favorite role to date. He is a very caring and generous person. He struggles to fulfill his families’ religious restraints, while juggling his sexual desires for Linda, played by the beautiful and talented Sara Fletcher.

While looking over your website, I see that you’ll be involved with something called Ginger-Stein. Not a lot of information, except that it’s about zombies, but is it a comic book series?

I am very excited for GINGER-STEIN. It’s a comic book series. It takes place during a zombie apocalypse. I model for the character, Grady Stone; he is the male hero and love interest of GINGER-STEIN. Dennis Williams is the artist for the comic series, and his work is phenomenal. A lot of horror actors are modeling for the comic. It is going to be very interesting.

Also while looking over your website; I discovered that it looks like you do modeling from time to time. Do you have an accomplishment with modeling that you’re particularly proud of?

I think my biggest modeling accomplishment to date was joining the NoH8 campaign. A lot of celebrities that I look up to joined it, and I was honored to come on board with them. It’s a really good cause. It deals with matters that need some attention, and I am honored to take a stand.

I was also asked to do an Andrew Christian Underwear show called Hunks In Trunks. It was a charity benefit event in order to help raise money for AIDS. I also had a few pictures selected by 2xist for their online underwear promotions.

Anything else you’d like to share with readers and fans? (websites, news, where to find you, social networking, etc)

First off, I want to thank my fans. I am very blessed for every single one of them. They are so kind, and the emails I receive from them are very moving. The best place to check for updates is at my official website https://www.codymatthewblymire.net/ and my facebook fan page (https://www.facebook.com/codymatthewblymire).

I have also been cast in the upcoming films, Where Were You When The Lights Went Out In Rio, which will be filming in Brazil next spring; as well as the upcoming film Pigboy which will be filming in England next summer.

Favorite horror film of all time:

That’s a hard one. Right now, I would have to say The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with Jessica Biel. I am a big Texas Chainsaw Massacre fan. I would be honored to appear in the upcoming Leatherface 3D. *hint, hint*

I always give actors in the entertainment industry credit for trying to learn as much as they can about the business, and especially when they show interest about being involved behind the scenes. So, I congratulate Cody on having a real passion for the business. I also applaud him for standing up for certain causes and lending a hand to charity events. I think if Cody continues steadily booking roles, learning more about production jobs, modeling, and activism – as long as he keeps his head focused – we’ll be calling him a Scream King some day soon. Follow Cody on twitter @CodyMBlymire.

Thanks for your time, Cody.
