Horror Sales: 3 new debuts at the Box Office

Two new science fiction films and one new horror film debut at the Box Office. Cowboys & Aliens took the #1 spot, which shocked me based on the ridiculous plot. The other two entries were indie films. The first film that debuted was Attack of The Block, which is a scifi-comedy about teens protecting their street from an alien invasion. The second is called Good Neighbors, which is a horror-thriller about a serial killer. So, when you’re planning a trip to the movies this week, give these two indie features a chance!

1 Cowboys & Aliens $51,620,000

4 2 Harry Potter/Hallows Part 2 $34,106,000 (Total: $330,614,000)

8 5 Transformers/Dark Moon $9,236,000 (Total: $341,158,000)

20 21 X-Men: First Class $486,000 (Total: $144,992,000)

22 14 Super 8 $476,000 (Total: $125,146,000)

24 25 Pirates/Stranger Tides $371,000 (Total: $238,595,000)

28 20 Thor $343,000 (Total: $180,716,000)

29 19 Green Lantern $315,000 (Total: $114,460,000)

32 Attack The Block $218,000

52 48 Insidious $31,000 (Total: $53,954,000)

59 63 Trollhunter $11,000 (Total: $210,000)

68 Good Neighbors $4,000

73 90 Hobo With A Shotgun $3,000 (Total: $702,000)

The DVD Top 30 Chart is still in the latest era of Harry Potter madness! However, several scifi films rose a couple spots on the chart. Insidious is still “doing work,” as they say. Also, I’m sad to see True Blood and Eureka disappear so quickly.

4 4 Harry Potter/Hallows Part 1 $2,372,000 (Total: $78,609,000)

6 3 Insidious $1,674,000 (Total: $6,848,000)

14 8 Sucker Punch $631,000 (Total: $7,567,000)

15 20 Beastly $626,000 (Total: $5,100,000)

16 16 Harry Potter/Blood Prince $609,000 (Total: $116,239,000)

17 21 Battle: Los Angeles $601,000 (Total: $14,146,000)

24 12 Season of the Witch $519,000 (Total: $7,095,000)

25 23 Harry Potter/Stone $443,000 (Total: N/A)

26 15 Harry Potter/Phoenix $413,000 (Total: $222,776,000)

Interesting Nielson Ratings this week with all the SyFy channel films, minus Ghost Hunters, pulling in over 2,000,000 viewers. Although True Blood and Falling Skies are still the troop leaders, Teen Wolf is showing signs of life. The same can’t be said for Nine Lives of Chloe King, unsurprisingly.

True Blood – 5,189,000

Falling Skies – 4,312,000

Warehouse 13 – 2,252,000

Eureka – 2,134,000

Alphas – 2,031,000

Haven – 2,004,000

Teen Wolf – 1,494,000

Vampire Diaries (rerun) – 1,210,000

Nine Lives of Chloe King – 961,000

Ghost Hunters: International – 941,000

Legend Quest – 732,000
