With a little digging, it becomes clear that almost every single actor has starred in a horror or science fiction film at some point. Same can be said for legendary voice actor Alan Young, who reportedly passed away Wednesday, May 19th at age 96. Sources state that he died peacefully in his sleep of old age. Young won an Emmy Award in 1951 for Best Actor and is most known for playing Wilbur Post in 144 episodes of “Mr. Ed” from 1961-1966, voicing Farmer Smurf in 119 episodes of “The Smurfs” from 1981-1989, and voicing Scrooge McDuck in 98 episodes of “DuckTales” from 1987-1990.

He was also known for voicing Keyop in 85 episodes of “Battle of the Planets” from 1978-1980; as well as his on-screen, lead and supporting roles in The Time Machine (1960), The Cat from Outer Space (1978), Beauty and the Beast (1983), Alice Through the Looking Glass (1987) and The Time Machine remake of 2002. His other vocal works and acting gigs include “Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo,” “Spider Man and His Amazing Friends,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Batman: The Animated Series,” The Curse of Monkey Island (1997), “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, “Static Shock” and “Freaky Links.”

Though his contributions to the realm of horror and science fiction may seem minimal, I’d like to thank him for his service to science fiction cartoons over the course of almost five decades. He’s truly a legend who will be missed my man. All of us here at HorrorSociety.com send our condolences to his family, friends and fans.

REST IN PEACE ALAN YOUNG
