Author Lois Duncan Has Passed Away.

Her 1973 Novel Inspired I Know What You Did Last Summer

I-Know-What-You-Did-Last-Summer-Book-CoverThe literary world suffered a major loss yesterday, Wednesday, June 15th, when prolific author Lois Duncan passed away. As confirmed by her husband and children on social media, Lois was found in the kitchen of her home Wednesday morning following a collapse. She was 82-years-old.

Her greatest novels include Down a Dark Hall (1974), Summer of Fear (1976), Killing Mr. Griffin (1978), Stranger with My Face (1981), The Third Eye (1984), Locked in Time (1985), Night Terrors (1996) and Gallows Hill (1997). Killing Mr. Griffin, Stranger with My Face and Gallows Hill – retitled to I’ve Been Waiting for You – all received feature film adaptions.

Lois Duncan is, of course, most known for penning I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1973. The novel was adapted to a feature film in 1997 that was so successful that it spawned two sequels – I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006). Lois has publicly stated she hated the movie starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

As a young adult drama author who often mixed her stories with mystery, supernatural, suspense and horror, Duncan was truly one of a kind and will be missed. At least her stories will live on for years to come. All of us at HorrorSociety.com send our condolences to her family, friends and fans.
