Women of Horror

We are thrilled to announce Horror Society’s 4th Film Festival in April at the Portage Theater from 5pm to 12am… Women of Horror.

With each festival we try to bring a new and different theme into the movie theater, and this time it’s Lady’s Night!

On Saturday, April 25th from 5pm to 12am, Horror Society will feature films directed, produced, written by women and/or have the lead in the film be a female.

Our goal for this festival is to show the female side of the horror genre in a way that most of the horror fans are not familiar with. We want to display females in horror as the lead, dominant role instead of the victim. Many studios and companies need to stay away from this point of view because it does not attract the audience they are looking for. To us that is a shame. We will also be showcasing and screening many films that have been directed, produced or written by women in the horror industry. There are so many female directors doing Indie horror now without the recognition they need and deserve.

This is our chance to show those women that are not only directing and producing Independent Horror, but the strong women that are in front of the camera as well.

We will also be working with the Lynn Sage Foundation and helping them raise money for Breast Cancer Research by holding a Horror Raffle of some great items. Trust me there is some good stuff in this raffle.

The theater is located on 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave in Portage Park. It’s a beautiful theater located in a great part of the city with state of the art equipment. We will have the theater from 5pm to 12am with vendors, giveaways, and more. With each of our festivals we try to put the spotlight on some local talent as well, so we will be having trailers of local Chicago Indie horror films playing throughout the night.
