Puzzled

From Blood and Guts Productions, the Ohio team that brought us the shorts Pipe Wrench and Living Dead, comes another short tale, this one revolving around an old woman named Emily who likes to complete puzzles she finds in her closet. One night when she can’t find any new puzzles to put together, she happens upon a mysterious package that shows up at her doorstep. Upon opening the package, she discovers a box with a new puzzle. What seems like a normal puzzle at first soon starts to unravel something horrifying which leads to a gruesome conclusion.

While Pipe Wrench was excellent, Puzzled is perhaps Blood and Guts Productions’ best short yet! It’s a very atmospheric and creepy film that reminds you of a campfire story your friends might have told you back when you were 10 years old. The black and white-looking video format the film was shot in along with the creeky old house setting provide the film with a very haunting look. Things become more terrifying as the story builds up to the bloody and shocking climax and the acting from the old lady is very convincing as she gives it her best. Overall, Stephen Corron and Shane Michaels have created a terrific scare flick with Puzzled. It’s sure to make for a good watch on a Halloween night when you want to freak out your friends.

Blood and Guts Productions’ DVD of Puzzled includes a behind-the-scenes featurette, deleted scenes, an alternate ending, special effects footage, and trailers.
