Deadly Beauty: Horror’s Scream Queens and Rising Talent: Angela Relucio

2013-09-05_0010_2“Angela Relucio hails from The Bronx, NY, and earned her BFA at the prestigious NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Now based in Los Angeles, Angela has appearances in the daytime dramas “Days of Our Lives,” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” You might recognize her from ABC’s “Last Resort” in which she plays opposite Scott Speedman as his wife’s co-kidnapper, or perhaps from Spike TV’s “1000 Ways to Die,” which still streams online with close to one hundred thousand views. She’s no stranger to horror either, with roles in “Alien Opponent” starring Roddy Piper, “The Blood Let” featuring Bill Oberst, “Atomic Brain Invasion” and soon-to-be-seen “The Cabining.”

And yes, Angela likes to laugh and make people laugh, too! She has trained at the famous Upright Citizens Brigade in NYC and The Groundlings in LA, and will soon be seen in “Cavemen” opposite Chad Michael Murray, and “Casual Encounters” opposite Taran Killam. When she isn’t busy being killed by creatures; committing criminal acts; or being the wacky hot date in the previously-mentioned projects, Angela can be found cuddling with her dogs (and also being active in the no-kill movement of homeless ones), doing pole and other crazy workouts, watching movies, and trying new restaurants where she can have her pescetarian’s fill! See more of Angela on angelarelucio.com, and hang with her on Facebook!”*

Location: Home base in Los Angeles, CA, but I’m from the Bronx, NY.

1. How did you get into the industry?

I think I’ve always wanted to perform. My mom swears I started while in the womb—dancing when music was playing! When I was young, I danced with a competition troupe back home in the Bronx, but when I got to high school, my focus turned to acting. I later attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts and really got into theatre, but what can I say? I LOVE being in front of the camera and eventually moved to L.A. where television and movies are produced everywhere and all the time.

2. What Scream Queen inspired you most?

I absolutely loved the heroines of Joss Whedon shows, but particularly idolized Sarah Michele Gellar as Buffy. In her world, monsters and creatures existed but this actress was so committed to their existence that I bought every word, every action—all of it! To me, commitment to the play world goes a long way in making a great Scream Queen. I also like Sara Paxton (Shark Night 3D, The Last House on the Left) because there’s something to be said about the innocent girl in a horror movie. You really just root her on and hope she doesn’t bite the big one. And if the girl happens to? Oh, well. Gotta love horror, huh?!

3. What are the next couple projects you are working on?

As far as horror goes, I’m eager to see my movie “The Cabining” which I worked on last Fall, and am still receiving kudos for my part in Synthetic Cinema International’s “Alien Opponent.” Right now, I have a couple of television shows floating about. I’m also enjoying doing comedic movies (like the upcoming “Cavemen” and “Casual Encounters“). I once heard, “There is a thin line that separates laughter and pain, comedy and tragedy, humor and hurt.” Me? I like to keep it interesting…walk on both sides of that line.
