Remember the Horror Society article where the werewolf design was revealed for indie film “Autumn Moon”

Well Randy Fabert is back and has some upcoming projects to die for.

1. Tell me about yourself as a filmmaker.

I grew up in a small town in Iowa. My father introduced me to makeup and film at the age of nine with Richard Corson’s book Stage Makeup, and giving me his old 8mm film camera. In 1981 I saw Rick Baker’s makeup effects for An American Werewolf in London and that was it. I turned all of his attention to studying the craft of makeup effects. I honed his craft for four years in his high school drama department and read many books on the subject. In 1989 I had the pleasure of studying under David Ayres (Close Encounters of the Thrird Kind). I currently run Fabert Makeup EFX Studio, creating great characters and creatures for film, tv and the stage, as well as Skylar Phoenix Productions; producing great movies.

2. What’s been your favorite experience making a horror film.?

I find that a hard question to answer, but I think I have one for you. I spent four weeks on the set of Immortally Yours, with Matthias Hues. (Dark Angel AKA I Come in Peace) Anyway I Come in Peace was one of my favorite science fiction/horror films from the 90’s and Matthias played the bad alien and had one line that he said over and over in it. That line was – yes … “I come in peace.” Well, on the set of Immortally Yours I kept on Hatthias about saying the line for me. His last night of shooting, camera one rolling! Camera two rolling! We’re waiting for action and Matthias says “Where’s Randy – I COME IN PEACE!” … Hahaha, that would have to rank up there for me.

3. What are your favorite special effects to do ?

I would have to say Creatures of all kinds, werewolfs, vampires, undead characters, Frankenstein’s monster.

4. Any projects coming up ?

Yes, I am currently Producing 7 films with Michael Loos:
The Last Days of Ezra Parrish (a gritty realisic western)
In a Cage (a domestic violence film)
Black Cross (a supernatural film set in 1410 Poland)
The Battle After the War (a powerful story of a solier returning home)
Accept Not (a mob film)
The Society (a demon film set in the south in 1865) *
Skuggorna (a scary take on the demon/ghost genre)
Autumn Moon (a very violent werewold film)

*Not with Michael Loos
