As soon as the “Charlie Charlie Challenge” became a fad on the internet a few months ago, I knew that someone was going to take the concept in make it into a horror film. Common sense, right? If you don’t remember, the “Charlie Charlie Challenge” was a game played with two pencils where participants would communicate with a spirit named Charlie. The pencils would apparently move when the spirit entered the room and then you could ask him yes or no questions. Well, I recently discovered that the supernatural game was being molded into a short film that will be one segment in a larger anthology flick.

The man adapting the game to a movie is none other than Johnnard Harper. Through my reportings at HorrorSociety.com I recognize Harper as the director of short Miss Mary Mack (2013) and found footage feature Urban Myths (2015). Johnnard has demonstrated that he is a capable director when working behind the lens, so I’m excited to see what he has to offer in his next horror themed adventure. As you can see in the promotional poster pictured above, he’s going to take the game one step further by using more pencils and that means that we’ll see see more spiritual activity and viewers won’t know what to expect from the advancement.

“6 Pencils” is one piece of Harper’s currently untitled anthology. Several other segments have been announced – “What’s Upstairs” and “Shhh” – but honestly, I’m most excited for “6 Pencils.” The short film segment will star Alexandra Mauro (from “More Than Human”) and Charles Christopher Hills. Derek Huey was also on board to help with the production that wrapped yesterday.
