This certainly isn’t the way we wanted to start off the new year.
Today it was announced by friend and fellow cast/crew member John A Russo that George Kosana has passed away. His official statement was posted on Facebook with, “George Kosana, R.I.P. My close friend George Kosana, who played the sheriff in Night of the Living Dead, has regrettably passed away after a long battle with various illnesses. He will be greatly missed by me, by his fellow Night of the Living Dead cast and crew members, and by his many fans. For the past few days, I have been constantly reliving my many good and often funny remembrances of him.”
George was 81-years-old at the time of his passing.
Not only did Kosana play a memorable role in Night of the Living Dead, but he also made a few other appearances in noteworthy films including Incest Death Squad (2009) and Living Dead (2012). He will make his final acting appearance on film in My Uncle John is a Zombie, which is due for release in 2017. Having served as a production manager on Night of the Living Dead and Night of the Living Dead: 30th Anniversary Edition, Kosana was a part of a zombie family that is beloved worldwide. His role was small and iconic and his legacy will last for generations.
