2014’s “Annabelle” was certainly a polarizing film. It remains the lone misstep in James Wan’s “Conjuring” series so with this prequel it seems as if the folks at New Line have lifted a thing or two out of the playbook of last year’s “Ouija: Origin of Evil”.
They nabbed themselves a hot, up-and-coming director in David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) and decided to make this one a prequel. Annabelle: Creation explores the origin of the haunted toy at the center of all the madness. The trailer looks promising and “Lights Out” was far better than I expected. After being disappointed by the first film in the series, I’m tentatively looking forward to this one.
