Short of the Week: “Itsy Bitsy Spiders” (2013)

For all you arachnophobes out there

Hello there fellow fear fans, it’s Thakgore and today I bring you our short of the week, “Itsy Bitsy Spiders”. This one is about a boy, Edwin, who is obsessed with drawing spiders everywhere, so much so that his mother has taken him to the doctor for help. There is also a parallel story running throughout the piece about children going missing, presumed to be kidnapped by a man the authorities refer to as “The Collector”. Eventually the two stories converge in a magically twisted sort of way.

Directed by Bertrand Pare and starring Julian Feder as Edwin and Jessica Galinas as his mother, Agatha, this little film packs a whole lot of creative punch into its short run time. Shot beautifully, with elements evocative of Wes Anderson or even Barry Sonnenfeld, it feels like a dark fairy tale wistfully told. I fell in love with this one and watched it over again immediately after my first viewing because I just wanted to take it in for longer. I would definitely love to see a feature version of this and can’t wait to see what comes next for director Bertrand Pare. Really good stuff here. Check it out.

If you enjoyed this short and would like to see more like it everyday I’d pop on over to the CryptTV Youtube channel and check them out. I recently fell in love with the channel myself and they put up a new horror content everyday.

Thakgore

Horror fan since childhood. Also, a stay at home Dad, layabout and general rapscallion. Purveyor of all things diabolical, devious and dire as well as loquacious lover of ludicrous alliteration and bold balladeer of bellicose buffoonery. Master of the run-on sentence.
