Short of the Week: “Horror Short Film” (2016)

A ghoulishly animated delight

Hello there fellow fans of the fiendishly phantasmagoric, it’s Thakgore and today I bring you our short of the week, an animated punch to the gut simply titled “Horror Short Film” by Riff and Alternate Studio. The story is uncomplicated, after a scary bedtime story a young girl is terrorized by monsters, but the themes presented are stark and well developed for a film so short. It’s quite an amazing feat of animation.

I attempted to find any information I could on the two studios responsible for this awesome little film but try as I might I could find nothing more than their official webpages. The two companies both seem to specialize in advertising with some film credits here and there. Regardless, the animation of the short is impressive with several moments that genuinely terrify. I enjoyed the message about domestic abuse and the effects it can have on a young mind. The last shot of the short is heart-wrenching and horrifying all at the same time. No matter how mysterious the origins of this film are the two Thai studios that produced it deserve heaps of praise. Check it out.
