Long Delayed ‘Amityville Horror’ Sequel Gets October Release.

Here’s a brief history of Amityville: The Awakening, because it’s been a historic mess that’s doomed any chance of this movie making money. Shot in 2014 under Panic Ventures and Baron Films, Amityville: The Awakening was originally set to see theaters on January 2, 2015. It was delayed five months to May 2015 before getting pushed back a year to April 15, 2016. However, Filmyard Holdings sold Miramax to beIN Media Group and they lost the rights to the film. Then, it was announced that the horror sequel was pushed forward two weeks to April 1, 2016 before being pulled from the release schedule again. No one heard from this movie again until a promised January 6, 2017 debut, but once again it was pulled from the line-up and delayed six months until June 30, 2017. A September 2017 theatrical run was rumored, but here we are on September 22, 2017 and once again it looks like we’ve been duped.

All is not lost, however, as Dimension Films is planning to release Amityville: The Awakening this Halloween season! The new movie will – hopefully – be delivered to streaming service Google Play on October 12, 2017 and the better news is, for a limited time, it’ll be free to watch! And if you’re a fan of seeing movies on the big screen, Dimension Films will also put Amityville: The Awakening in select theaters beginning October 28, 2017.

Amityville: The Awakening was written and directed by Franck Khalfoun, whose previous credits include High TensionP2, and Maniac. Producers who served on this title include Alix Taylor (FeastPiranha 3D), slasher documentary maker Daniel Farrands, Jason Blum and Bob & Harvey Weinstein. Lead and supporting cast members include Bella Thorne (Forget Me Not, “Big Love”), Cameron Monaghan (“Malcolm in the Middle”), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hitcher), Taylor Spreitler (“Melisa & Joey”), Thomas Mann (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), McKenna Grace (“The Young and the Restless”), and Hunter Goligoski.

Belle, her little sister Juliet, and her comatose twin brother James move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begins to occur in the house, including the miraculous recovery of her brother and Belle’s increasingly horrifying nightmares, Belle begins to suspect her mother isn’t telling her everything—and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.
