Glass Eye Pix continues the roll-out of lavish Blu-Ray releases from its extensive archives with Graham Reznick’s striking feature debut I CAN SEE YOU, presented along with his award-winning 3D short THE VIEWER, and bundled with OFFERINGS, an array of short form work never before released on physical media. The extras-packed disc asserts Reznick’s unique command over surreal genre filmwork.
I CAN SEE YOU (2009) marked the first collaboration between future UNTIL DAWN co-writers Reznick and Larry Fessenden, with Reznick writing/directing and Fessenden performing/producing. Upon the film’s premiere, The New York Times said “…Heralds a splendid new filmmaker with one eye on genre mechanics, one eye on avant-garde conceits and a third eye for transcendental weirdness.” I CAN SEE YOU is a psychedelic campfire tale about three young ad men who take a weekend trip into the wilderness to work on an ad pitch when a young woman’s disappearance sparks a descent into unreality. THE VIEWER, a 3D short featuring a young Lena Dunham, is “A Telepathic Interrogation in Three Dimensions.”
Both I CAN SEE YOU and THE VIEWER have been restored and are available in HD and true 3D Blu-Ray format, respectively, and THE VIEWER has a brand new 5.1 mix. The OFFERINGS series includes two experimental short films from Beck Underwood’s Creepy Christmas film series, THE TRICK IS THE TREAT, a Halloween classic featuring the legendary Angus Scrimm, and HIGHLAND STEEL, a music video originally created for Reznick’s debut electronic album on Mondo / Deathwaltz.
This release features a limited slipcover illustration designed by comic artist Brian Level, a 28 page booklet with an essay by “Shock Value” author Jason Zinoman, and a brand new commentary track with Reznick and producer Peter Phok, moderated by film critic Simon Abrams. This initial run will contain two pairs of collectable Glass Eye Pix red-cyan anaglyph 3D glasses – but once they’re gone, they’re gone forever!
Says Reznick: “I CAN SEE YOU and THE VIEWER are two films that capture both a slice of time and reality from a ghostly, faded era of New York City. Be careful when you step into this pocket universe with us – you may not recognize yourself on the other side.”
