At 8:30 PM on August 19th at the Broadstreet 7, Philadelphia moviegoers will experience something they’ve never seen before: an Ohio-filmed, independent horror-comedy that’s been converted to 3D through an independent, Philly-based process.
CLAY ZOMBIES 3D is director Jake “Danger” Jolley’s homage to the terror of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and the magic of Claymation. As a ragtag team of heroes joins forces to fight an onslaught of clay-animated zombies and the evil industrialist who created them, the audience will don their 3D glasses to experience the thrill of SpaceBrains3D, my homebrew, idiosyncratic conversion system – developed right here in Philadelphia – that brings a new dimension to the comic mayhem.
This is the culmination of a long-held dream for me: To bring to the public a new life for the 3D process, to rescue it from crushing overload of tentpole releases and restore the fun, the novelty, and even a little bit of silliness to the format. I am grateful that Jake Jolley has allowed me the chance to use his film as a playground for my system, and am thrilled that Philadelphia film-lovers will get a chance to see what happens when 3D sheds its big-budget restraints, and gets down to giving its audience a real show.
