Troma Entertainment, the longest-running independent movie studio in North America, proudly celebrates the Sept 8th Blu-ray releases of Graduation Day (Tromatic Special Edition) and Sweet Meats.
For over half a century, Troma has distributed cinematic masterpieces such as The Toxic Avenger, Def by Temptation, Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D., Class of Nuke ‘Em High, Cannibal! The Musical and Tromeo and Juliet.
Graduation Day comes from that magical time in early ‘80s cinema when teenagers were targets for serial killers, undead creatures, and deranged classmates. Midvale High School’s Laura Ramstead (Ruth Ann Llorens, Cheaper to Keep Her) gives everything she’s got to the track team and dies during a race. Her sister Anne (Patch Mackenzie, It’s Alive III: Island of the Alive) returns home to take part in a memorial at the graduation ceremony. She suspects the overbearing Coach George Michaels (Christopher George, Pieces and City of the Living Dead) might be the reason Laura died. But who is killing the other student-athletes at the school?
Among those who might get a death certificate instead of a diploma are Michael Pataki (Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers), Denise Cheshire (1941), Linnea Quigley (The Return of the Living Dead), and Vanna White (Wheel of Fortune). New Wave darlings Felony perform at the lethal graduation dance in the gym. Graduation Day was written and directed by Herb Freed (Tomboy) and proved to be a major hit at the box office.
The bonus features include the classic introduction featuring Lloyd Kaufman; interviews with Patch Mackenzie, Herb Freed, David Baughn, Martin Jay Sadoff, and Linnea Quigley; audio commentaries featuring producer David Baughn and the hosts of “The Hysteria Continues” podcast; and coming distractions.
Sweet Meats is the newest sensation from Troma. Country singer Bobby Sweet (Ricky Glore, All Your Friends Are Dead) and his Sweet Meats burger restaurants are massive successes. He once struggled with both careers until he uncovered his unique voice and beloved hamburger recipe. It turns out his secret ingredient between the buns isn’t exactly made with love. There is a heart or two involved in the grinding process.
Bobby owes much of his climb to the top of the charts to his colorful wife, Laddie (Eileen Earnest, Casually Cool), and brother-in-law, Jerry (Timmy H. Barron, Never Not Yours). The film mixes stomach-churning special effects with the sweet sounds of original country songs. Sweet Meats is an addictive musical delight written and directed by star Ricky Glore, who also sings. Troma co-founder Lloyd Kaufman has a cameo in the studio’s newest masterpiece.
