Travis Bowen, the Warren man behind the Dark X-Mas horror/sci-fi conventions, is planning what is likely to be his biggest project.
He is directing “The Girl,” a horror film starring Corey Haim, best known for his work in the 1987 vampire film “The Lost Boys,” and Lindsay Felton (of Nickelodeon’s “Caitlin’s Way,” which ran from 2000 to 2002). Bowen’s company, Eerie Frequency Entertainment, is funding the film, along with Sound Video Productions of Akron and Entertainment At Its Best, a West Virginia-based management firm. The budget is close to $20,000.
The film will be shot in the Mahoning Valley, mostly in Liberty and Warren. “We’ll be starting to film on June 8th to the 10th, then a few weeks in July, and we’ll be shooting the majority at the end of September,” said Bowen. The script was written by Valley resident Joe Mohn and edited by Bowen. Sound Video will run the cameras and Bill Bankey will be the head of makeup/special effects.
“The first actor I cast was Corey Haim for the lead male character,” Said Bowen. “I’ve always been a fan of ‘The Lost Boys’ and he was just coming off of two seasons on ‘The Two Coreys’ [on A&E] with him and Corey Feldman. We had been talking for awhile because he wanted to appear at my Dark Xmas show, so we just worked out the details.”
