SIXTY PERCENT OF HALLOWEEN REVELERS PLAN TO SCARE UP FUN WITH A HORROR MOVIE

Redbox Halloween Survey Finds 30 Percent of Horror Movie Watchers too Scared to Turn off the Lights

Redbox, the popular movie rental provider, will be scaring up fun and treating film lovers to a collection of horror movies this Halloween.  From the original “Friday the 13th” to “The Ring” to cult favorite “Paranormal Activity,” redbox is celebrating the season with masked villains, noises in your head and bumps in the night.  According to the redbox Halloween Survey, six out of 10 holiday revelers plan to watch a horror movie this October, and 70 percent are brave enough to turn down the lights.  Following are more frighteningly fun facts about horror movies as redbox treats Halloween lovers to a collection of horror films to celebrate the season.

Searching for a Scream?  Redbox is making it easier to find horror movies this Halloween.  Now movie lovers can text “NEW” to 727272 from a mobile device to receive a list of horror movies available at the approximately 24,000 redbox® locations nationwide.*  The list of scary movies will be updated every Tuesday, with new monsters and villains entering the redbox line-up each week.

Watching a Horror Movie is More Fun Than Eating Candy:  According to the redbox Halloween Survey, a survey of 1,600 redbox renters nationwide, people enjoy watching horror movies more than they enjoy eating candy (19.2 percent and 13 percent respectively).  So put down the candy dish and grab the remote – it’s time to celebrate!

Afraid of the Dark?: Apparently 3 out of 10 Americans are afraid of the dark, as 30 percent of the redbox Halloween Survey respondents claim they will keep the lights on when watching horror movies this Halloween.  The survey did not ask if they would keep only one eye open.

It’s All in Your Head: Paranormal movies (47 percent) top slasher films (31 percent) and zombie movies (8 percent) as the scariest type of scary movie, according to the redbox Halloween Survey.  Or at least that’s what the voices in respondents’ heads told them to report.

Dying to Rent: This Halloween, redbox is featuring a variety of frightening films that will keep Halloween revelers on the edge of their seats. Survey respondents are most excited to rent the following titles from redbox this October: “Friday the 13th” (32 percent), “Pet Sematary” (16 percent), “The Ring” (13 percent), “The House of the Devil” (13 percent), and “Night of the Demons” (11 percent).

Horror in High Definition: Now featuring Blu-ray Disc® rentals at locations nationwide, redbox is offering a selection of horror movies in the Blu-ray™ format this Halloween.  Monsters have never looked scarier as these titles make their redbox Blu-ray™ debut just in time for Halloween:  “Primal Fear,” “The House of the Devil,” and “Cloverfield.”

Each fully-automated redbox kiosk holds 630 discs, representing up to 200 titles.  Consumers simply use a touch screen to select their favorite movies, swipe a valid credit or debit card and go.  For added convenience, customers can visit www.redbox.com to select their movie online or via the iPhone® app from redbox and pick it up immediately at the redbox location of their choice.  To find the nearest redbox location, consumers can visit www.redbox.com or text ‘redbox’ to 50101 from a mobile phone.*
