Blu Review – Anaconda

anablu

As the 90s were winding down I started to find myself heading to the local video store more frequently and I found myself checking out horror films for the most part.  However, I would randomly check out the new release section.  Hell, who couldn’t resist the new release section with the glowing bulbs circling the sign and most of the VHS had never been touched. One of the new releases that I remember checking out before anyone else was the Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube action/horror flick Anaconda.  That movie was one that I continued to rent for some reason and still check it out on occasion.

Not long ago I caught wind that my friends over at Mill Creek Entertainment was releasing the film on blu and I had to get in on the action.  I reached out to them and they were nice enough to send me a review copy and for that I thank you!

My blu reviews focus on three things; artwork, film quality, and special features.

The first thing with this release I will look at is the films artwork.  I prefer the film’s original artwork and nothing new from these modern horror illustrators but in some cases it is necessary.  Sadly, for this Anaconda release I would have preferred to see a new rendition of the artwork instead of the original because it is rather dull and unoriginal.  As you can see above, the artwork is very unoriginal and boring as hell.  Something really needed to be done about that.

The film quality is very solid which is something I have come to expect from Mill Creek.  Their restored and remastered films always look good when that may be about all you can say about all their re-releases.

Finally, the film does lack special features which is a little disheartening because, as I said earlier, I am a fan of the film.  I would have loves to see a retrospective on the film along with some cast and crew commentaries about their time on set and so forth.

Overall, the Anaconda blu release from Mill Creek is solid release that does skip on the special features.  Fan of the film will want to own this one until another release comes about with some proper special features.

Artwork – 2/5
Film Quality – 3.5/5
Special Features – 0/5
