Where Are They Now? : Caroline Munro

caroline_munro_21512I recently caught Caroline Munro in a new werewolf movie. I didn’t recognize her for her resume, but I did recognize her face. This caused me to research her and I was happy to see she’s one of the best scream queens of yesteryear who’s still going strong.

Caroline Munro was born in England during January 1949. Her career started small, when her mother entered her picture in a newspaper contest and she won. What would seem like such a small endeavor spiraled uphill and eventually Caroline became one of the top models of her time and appeared in every magazine you could think of, including Vogue in 1966. As is often the case, her beautiful appearance and charming personality lead her to a casting director’s office and that’s where her career in film started.

Like most actors and actresses, Caroline started working in commercials and graduated to bigger productions, although her parts would be extremely limited. While she appeared in the Oscar Nominated Bond film, Casino Royale, in 1967, it was only a small part, and her next gig in Golden Globe Nominated musical-comedy, Joanna, was even smaller. Still, she continued ahead with this career and played the uncredited role of the villain’s daughter in The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) and its sequel Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972). Finally, Munro got her first supporting role in 1972 in horror’s Dracula AD 1972.

Following this accomplishment, Caroline went on to book a number of lead roles in horror and science fiction flicks. These roles include The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973), Captain Kronos – Vampire Hunter (1974), At the Earth’s Core (1976), Starcrash (1978), the original Maniac (1980), The Last Horror Film (1982), Slaughter High (1986), Faceless (1987), and Demons 6 (1989). During this time she also returned to a 007 film and had a lead role in the 3x Oscar Nominated The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).

So, where is Caroline Munro now?

I’m happy to say her career in the entertainment industry is just one year short of its 50th anniversary. Caroline continued acting into the new millennium. While she has gone on to conquer other genres and a few television shows, she’s also remained loyal to the genre that made her famous. She’s taken on roles in Flesh for the Beast (2003), The Absence of Light (2006), and Highway to Hell (2010). She currently has a feature, Crying Wolf, that is starting to make it out to the public and she has two other films due for release in 2015 – Vampyres and Cute Little Buggers.
