Axeman gets deadly (interview) Jamie Bernadette

Jamie Bernadette

The Axeman at Cutter’s Creek is coming! Invading HorrorHound Weekend in full force with most of the cast being on hand, to witness the rise of this sure to be gore-tastic horror film.  In a cross promotion with Dead Ink Apparel, Director/writer Joston Theney will unveil extended scenes that I’m sure will have the blood thirsty horror fans all wanting more at the horror convention on March, 24th in Cincinnati, Ohio.

To give us more insight into the horrific events that take place in the quiet mountains of Big Bear, California actress Jamie Bernadette talks about the film, her character along with her love for the genre of horror!  And a certain kissing scene with Erin Marie Hogan that is seen in the trailer for the film.  Enjoy!

Horror Society: Now that the blood is spilled on the floor, and the experience is over, what are some of your scariest memories from being on set of the AxeMan at Cutter’s Creek?

Jamie Bernadette: Having Scot Pollard, the 7-foot-tall Axeman come at me was pretty scary, but I trusted him not to hurt me.  He’s really just a big, furry bear!

HS: You play the role of Tammy in the film, what can you tell us about her, and how much trouble does she get into?

JB: Tammy is a strong, caring person who is very much in love with her girlfriend, Liz, played by the gorgeous Erin Marie Hogan.  Her life revolves around Liz and she will do anything for her.  Tammy gets into a lot of trouble, but she fairs well under stress.

HS: Now an easy, fun question, what is your favorite horror film and why?

JB: “The Descent”!!  I love the film because it centers on a group of strong women and their relationships to each other.

HS: Why do you think horror fans keep coming back for more in the slasher genre?

JB: Because we are all just a little bit screwy!  No, seriously, I think people enjoy the adrenaline rush that horror gives them.

HS:  What was it like being chased or hunted by a 7 foot tall man in the dead of the night, and do you get to a weapon to fight back?

JB:  It was freaky!!  But Scot is a sweetheart so I kept that in mind.  I can’t really comment on the weapon part because I can’t give anything away about the story.  You’ll have to be surprised!

HS:  You have an on-screen kiss with your co-star Erin Marie Hogan what was that day like, was there a lot of nerves building up to that scene or was it just a breeze?

JB:  I LOVED working with Erin and it was so EASY to play her girlfriend.  Erin is a fantastic actress and we work so well together.  I wasn’t nervous about the kiss at all because I felt so comfortable with her.  I was lucky to kiss her!  She’s beautiful!

HS: It has been confirmed by numerous sources that the Axeman is filled with blood and gore, what was it like watching some of these events unfold from script to screen?

JB: It was really incredible.  Seeing a script come to life is always a very special experience and I absolutely love horror so it was fascinating to watch the makeup artists in action and the actors play out these gruesome scenarios.  Joston picked a very talented cast that brought his story to life effortlessly.

HS: My follow up to that question is, what got you excited about this project and made you want to sign up for the bloody mayhem that takes place in the Axeman at Cutter’s Creek?

JB: Horror is at the top of my list of genres to film in and I loved the script.  Joston can really write!  The script is funny at times, builds good back-story of the characters, and of course is very bloody!  I love a horror script that has more depth to it than just slashing—that gives actors roles to which they can bring many colors.  My character, Tammy, excited me because she isn’t who I am and I love playing characters outside of myself.  I’ve played the sweet girl next door, anorexic Meth addict, bassist in a female heavy metal band, soldier, stripper, airline stewardess, Goth girl, punk girl, and on and on, and in this case, lesbian.

HS: I’ve so far asked everyone this question, and they’ve all given nothing by love and support for Director/writer Joston Theney, what was it like working with him on set?

JB: Joston is FUN, he’s laid-back, professional, sweet, and, ya know, he’s not too bad to look at!  Ha ha.  A pretty smile never hurts the mood on set J

HS: How much Axe-Weilding fun is directed towards your character?

JB: Oh, Tammy gets some excitement!  And not just from her girlfriend Liz…….

HS: I’m a huge fan of twitter believe it or not, so here’s another fun question: #awkwardmoment when you realize your character ______ is or is not standing in _____ in the film Axeman at Cutter’s Creek.

JB: Tammy, bloody dingle berries

HS: My last and final question, is there anything that I left out that you’re just dying to tell the fans about this film or anything else that you’re currently working on?

JB: Most of the cast of Axeman and the director will be at the Horror Hound convention in Cincinnati, Ohio at the end of March!  See you there!  As far as what I’m working on now, I just wrapped on a Sci Fi that FOX Studios is producing called “Secret Children” in which I play a clone who heads a resistance group.  I have several films booked to shoot in this year, spanning across several genres—more horror, comedy more Sci Fi, drama, and even fantasy.  I am also producing a horror that I wrote and will act in called “The Sixth Friend”, expected to begin shooting this summer.

I want to thank Jamie Bernadette for taking the time to do this bloody awesome interview,  if you want to find out more about this bloody amazing film check out their Facebook fan page, and stay up to date!
