Scriptures and Screams: Satan’s Wrath: Aeons of Satan’s Reign
This is the type of CD that you have to listen to from beginning to end to fully appreciate the range and the scope of not only the musicians but also story the album tells! In the beginning, one would mistakenly assume that this was more of a power/opera metal style with lyrics delving deeply in satanic storytelling, but that is only half true. The first two track, “Only Satan is Lord” and “Die White Witch Die”, while a bit slower and more melodic in nature, only set you up for the raw power and aggression that follows. In particular, “Archfiend”, “Satan’s Blood, Lucifer’s Fire” and “Lives of the Necromancers” bring in heavier elements of the guitar work of Stamos K (guitars), V (guitars) and Costa (bass) and the rapidly controlled drum beats of Nathan Perrier. Tas Danazoglou (vocals) does an amazing job of painting a very black picture as he sings about his Dark Lord, and while very guttural, is surprisingly understandable to those that don’t listen to this style of music. As Metal Blade put it “SATAN’S WRATH deal in a style of heavy metal music which harks back to the times when the death, black and thrash genres were all considered one in the same and only leather, spikes and bullets were real!” I concur. I heard elements of Venom, King Diamond, Obituary and even early Cannibal Corpse through the album, but at the same time they manage to keep the sound their own. If you are looking to expand your metal boundaries a bit and listen to something blasphemous, then this is the album for you! Highly enjoyable and well recommended, just don’t play at your church social!
