R.I.P. Walking Dead Star Scott Wilson.

I was working until the early hours of the morning last night, so I wasn’t able to make a timely article on the death of Scott Wilson. I almost didn’t make one again this morning, but I feel as if it would be wrong of me not to pay tribute to such a gentle soul and one of the key players from the former hit show, “The Walking Dead.” As I’m sure you’ve all heard by now, actor Scott Wilson passed away on Saturday, October 6th of complications stemming from his battle with leukemia. He was a rambunctious 76-years-young at the time of his passing.

AMC commented on his death with the following, ““Scott will always be remembered as a great actor and we all feel fortunate to have known him as an even better person. The character he embodied on ‘The Walking Dead,’ Hershel, lived at the emotional core of the show. Like Scott in our lives, Hershel was a character whose actions continue to inform our characters’ choices to this day. Our hearts go out to his wife, family, friends and to the millions of fans who loved him. Scott will be missed.”

Of course, the former Golden Globe Nominee was most known for playing the role of “Hershel Greene” in 37 episodes of “The Walking Dead” from 2011 to 2014. He also appeared in horror films including Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, The Exorcist III, The Host, Legion, Mother and The Ninth Configuration. Outside of the genre, he recurred in “CSI: Miami” and appeared in Dead Man Walking, G.I. Jane, The Great Gatsby remake andPearl Harbor.

I think what drew viewers, myself included, to the Atlanta native was…you felt like Hershel represented a part of Scott, in that he was playing a character that matched his personality and values as well. Serving as “the moral compass” of the show, Scott was also the voice of reason just before the shit hit the fan. He was calming and collected. Lots of people, again – myself included, escape into the films and television shows they watch; to forget about the hardships of every day life. Scott’s integral role in “The Walking Dead” transcended plastic screens and became a much needed dose of leadership and guidance in our own lives. He will be missed.
