It’s official: Silent Hills, the proposed 12th game in the Silent Hill video game franchise, has been cancelled.
Fans of the series and survival horror games in general were ecstatic in April 2014 when they were offered the chance to play a beta teaser at GamesCon. Only after completing the teaser did they learn that it was a test for Play Station 4’s upcoming release, Silent Hills. Not only that, but “Walking Dead” fans were already lining up for the video game when they learned that Norman Reedus – who plays Daryl Dixon on the hit AMC show – would model and voice Silent Hill’s main character.
Silent Hills was being developed by Kojima, Konami and Fox Engine under the direction of Guillermo Del Toro with a release slated for this fall. However, negotiations and heated debates between Kojima and Konami have caused the proposed game to be scrapped…with production having obviously already been started!
The official notification came tonight in the form of an announcement from Konami following a leak by Del Toro:
“Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued. In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.”
