Viscera Film Festival

The 2009 submission phase is coming to an end for the Viscera Film Festival, a Chainsaw Mafia sponsored horror film fest for female filmmakers. Viscera works with Sponsors around the globe to advertise and promote the selected filmmakers’ work. Since 2007, over 25 filmmakers have been chosen to be represented by Viscera, which was founded by Festival Director Shannon Lark.

Benefits from the Festival include a compilation DVD which is viewed by Sponsoring Film Festivals magazines, and websites for potential screenings/reviews from the United States to Australia. Each filmmaker receives a Viscera Statue and all-female productions have the opportunity to receive the Viscera Award, a monetary award to congratulate women coming together to create instead of cat fighting and talking about hairspray.

The Viscera Film Festival will have its first screening in the Spring of 2010 in Los Angeles, celebrating Viscera’s 2009, 2008, and 2007’s selections, accompanied with an award ceremony.

For those ladies who are interested in submitting but don’t know where to start, The Chainsaw Mafia suggests they contact Shannon Lark with any questions. Men and women alike are encouraged to understand that “if a woman can go through the terror of pushing out a baby, she can make a horror film!”
