Tempe, AZ  (January 15, 2010) – The horror film, “Roman’s Bride,” world premieres at the Phoenix Fear Film Festival in Tempe on Saturday, January 23rd. Written, produced and starring former Tucson resident, Anne Paul, “Roman’s Bride” tells the story of Lily Heller (Paul), a lonely rural Iowa woman with deadly fixations.  “Roman’s Bride,” screens at 5:30PM at the Madcap Theaters, 730 South Mill Ave. in Tempe.  The one-time screening will be followed by a Q&A with first time director Michael Paul.  Festival tickets and details on the event are available at www.phxfearfilmfestival.com.

“[Roman’s Bride] paints a disturbing picture located at the intersection of religious morality, sexual tension and rural isolation,” states the festival’s website.  The Festival’s review describes Anne’s performance as “startling… combining fragility and cruelty in her portrayal of a badly-damaged psyche.”  Anne, as well as other members of the cast, will be attending this year’s festival and will be available for photos and autographs, along with actress Kristine Medrud, also formerly from Tucson.

Shot entirely in Iowa, across three counties and countless working farms, “Roman’s Bride” tells the story of Lily Heller and her mother (Medrud).  When Lily discovers that her neighbor and childhood crush, Roman, has recently become single and unemployed, she fixates on gaining his attention.  But the closer Lily gets, the more she becomes haunted by threats from her past that push her to the edge.  When Roman’s old girlfriend returns, with plans for a wedding, Lily’s world become everyone’s nightmare.

Dead Weeds Pictures is an Iowa-based production company headed by husband and wife filmmakers Michael and Anne Paul.  “Roman’s Bride” is the company’s first feature film.  More information on the film can be found at www.romansbride.com.
