Horror Sales: Poltergeist makes $9,350,000 on opening night; holds #3 spot.

Poltergeist 2015 2The Poltergeist remake hit 3,240 theaters nationwide last night and the ticket sales reports are starting to trickle in. According to BoxOfficeMojo, Poltergeist earned $9,350,000 in movie ticket sales last night, becoming the #3 best selling movie of the evening.

It was held off from taking the top spot by Tomorrowland and Pitch Perfect 2, and it’s possible that Mad Max: Road Fury could overtake it during the week, pushing it down to the #4 film by Friday. If estimates are correct, though, Poltergeist should finish out the week grossing $20-$23,000,000 by the end of its debut.

The original Poltergeist, released in 1982, experienced longevity at the box office and made $76,606,000, becoming the #8 movie of the entire year.
