Mangled Angels Blog

tourNice idea and this looks to be promising. This looks to be a well thought out idea and could be a huge hit for the production team here. Catering to our sick minds! Check this out!!

The Angel Maker creates Angels out of his victims to communicate with God

Horror fans are increasingly becoming more selective, choosing the more graphic and shocking indie offerings over mainstream studio fare. Seattle-based Kapow/Splat Productions recognized this trend in late 2006 and have created a gory online serialization with a twist – a divinely-inspired serial killer who publishes a daily blog recounting his daily activities, his innermost thoughts, and the most intimate details and photographs of the victims. The website is located at https://www.mangledangels.com

Graphic and shocking is an understatement when it comes to Mangled Angels.

“I retched during one of the shoots. It looks real,” grimaces lighting director Shelly Alexander.

Fatally Yours Horror Reviews says, “Literary gorehounds will delight in the vivid descriptions of the killer’s deeds and revel in the blood-bathed photography.”

Creator Aaron Egnor knew shock value and originality would be the way to capture the attention of hardcore horror fans. “I wanted to incorporate several themes into one concept – religious overtones, serial killers, the occult, lots of blood and torture – and use it all to create an ongoing look at how a story develops. That’s why we went with the blog format, to share the daily development with our fans. Instead of a scripted indie horror short, we created a website that has the potential to change day to day, even hour to hour, based on current events and how The Angel Maker perceives them.”

The premise alone is disturbing – for twenty years the killer has sought atonement for an accidental murder, turning from religion to philosophy to the occult and back again. Delusion sets in, and The Angel Maker realizes the only way to gain redemption is by creating Angels out of young women, to deliver messages to God, proving the killer is worthy of his forgiveness. That’s where the gore comes in.

Their first photo was of a young Asian woman slumped against a pole in a dank basement, her hands cuffed together, and her chest ripped open in an ugly, jagged wound. Bits of broken rib were visible. In her hands, she held her own heart, freshly removed. The picture premiered on Valentine’s Day and was addressed to God with a short missive of love and dedication from The Angel Maker.

“Even God likes to get a Valentine,” quips Mangled Angels co-writer Adam Cranner.

Kapow/Splat Productions is currently presenting Mangled Angels at various genre conventions across the United States, making appearances at the Seattle-based SakuraCon and Emerald City Comic Con, and planning stops at the Fangoria Horror Weekend and the Texas Frightmare Weekend Conventions later this Spring.

Brett Hunt and Robert Haines, the producers of Mangled Angels, knew they had found the right project to be involved with shortly after meeting the creative team behind the storyline. “Normally I’m not a big fan of horror, however something about this project really struck a chord with me and I just had to get involved. There’s no other serial killer, fictional or otherwise, quite like this one, nor are there any other websites like Mangled Angels,” says producer Robert Haines. “The content from the blogs and the photos is cutting-edge and original, and the story is really engrossing. I’m very impressed with it.”

Co-writer Adam Cranner has worked in Hollywood, as a victim of Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th Part 9, as well as working on promo campaigns for The Jerry Springer Show, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Aaron Egnor has been into photography since his teens and is a freelance writer, as well as a musician with various goth/industrial bands, so visualizing and writing shocking content was never an issue for this team. Shelly Alexander was brought onboard as lighting director and secondary photographer, and the creative team was rounded out with the addition of Jerry Johnson to handle video duties and Darren Hafner as special effects makeup artist.
