Composer Claude Foisy Talks Scoring “Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort”

Claude Foisy is easily one of the busiest composers around today, especially in the month of October thanks to a franchise that fans cannot get enough of, “Wrong Turn.”

Eleven years after the original there is no slowing down in sight for this film series as rumors have already begun about development on a 7th film. Foisy, a Montreal native, couldn’t be happier to be part of the franchise with “Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort” marking his fourth film in the series to score.

When asked about his work on the films, Foisy says, “I am very proud to have scored four sequels to “Wrong Turn” as this franchise is completely supported by its fans. The challenge is to keep the music fresh while consistent from film to film. Each movie can stand on its own right but together, form a long story arc that explains the origins, evolution and where One Eye, Saw Tooth and Three Fingers are headed as a family.” Fox’s Senior Vice President of Production Tom Siegrist also adds “Claude is a consummate professional. His work has been terrific and he is a valued member of our team at Fox.”

“Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort” begins as an emotionally troubled young man, Danny (Anthony Ilott), inherits an isolated backwoods hotel that may hold the key to his secret past. A trip to the peaceful resort quickly transforms into a blood-soaked killing spree, as Danny’s friends are brutally murdered one by one. Danny discovers that Three Finger and his flesh-eating kin are to blame, but the chilling surprises they have in store for him have only just begun. Danny ultimately learns that he has an unthinkable connection to the clan of hillbilly cannibals, but now that he knows the shocking truth, he will face an even more horrifying choice.

The motivational factors that attract and lure Danny to the family come into play this film and for that reason, Foisy chose to use instruments that are indigenous to its Appalachian surroundings, such as the fiddle, dulcimer and auto-harp. “Appalachian music has, in its roots, a deep family tradition. That is why this instrumentation makes the score more intimate and emotionally powerful” says Foisy.

Claude is no stranger to the horror genre, having scored Universal Picture’s hit film “White Noise” starring Michael Keaton, IFC Film’s “Pontypool” and Twentieth Century Fox’s “Joy Ride 3” to name a few. Horror films aren’t the only thing Foisy has composed since moving to Hollywood in 1994, he has scored over 200 films and TV episodes for SyFy, NBC, Hallmark, Lifetime, USA and TNT. He has also garnered success with USA’s highest rated series “The 4400” and Season One of the CW Network’s “Beauty and the Beast.” Next on the calendar for Foisy, he wrote the music for the first ever starring role of Marvel’s ubiquitous creator, Stan Lee. “Scoring “Stan Lee’s Mighty 7”, which is the first of three films, is a huge honor for me, especially since Stan plays himself in this” says Foisy.
